Reports To: Regional Director, Human Resources

Salary: $137,000 - $182,000 annually, depending on experience

The Director of Human Resources (HR) will serve as a strategic leader, business partner and trusted advisor to park leadership. This position is responsible for developing and executing HR strategies that support the parks’ mission, values, and goals. This role oversees all aspects of HR including recruitment, employee relations, seasonal compensation, performance management, and maintaining compliance with California labor laws and regulations. While based at Discovery Kingdom, this role will also have HR oversight for CA Great America approximately 60 miles away.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned HR leader with a deep understanding of California employment practices, a strong leadership track record, and the ability to work with and support all levels of employees.


Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Human Resource and Workforce Management professionals at both Discovery Kingdom and CA Great America
  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the park’s operational goals
  • Provide expert guidance on HR trends, best practices, and California Employment Law
  • Partner with Regional GM and park leadership to align compensation strategy with park goals and budget.
  • Provide HR expertise to park leadership to assist with the decision making & resolution process regarding associate issues and concerns. Advises leadership staff on employee relations issues. Research and recommend options to ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws; involves appropriate corporate resources as needed.
  • Partner with park leadership teams to drive & support park culture, employee engagement, and workforce planning
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Develop and manage HR budget. Adjust budget, as needed, to meet Park needs and goals.
  • Oversee and at times lead, park employee relations, investigations, and resolution of workplace issues
  • Maintain and update HR policies and employee handbooks in accordance with California law
  • Oversee the full cycle recruitment and associate experience for 4000+ PT and Seasonal employees and 100+ FT employees. Provide direction to leadership at all levels on various topics including employee relations, training and development, employment law, and retention
  • Oversee annual performance and compensation review processes

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred), or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including at least 3 years in a senior management role
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred
