Responsible for the overall operation of the Life Support Laboratory including staffing, inventory control, water chemistry, quality control, and adherence to governmental and safety policies.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall safe and efficient operation of the Life Support Laboratory.
- Operate and maintain all related equipment and chemical processes.
- Assist in preparation of annual budget under the direction of the Life Support Supervisor.
- Oversee the purchasing of new materials and supplies for the Laboratory.
- Communicate testing results to Attending Veterinarian Team and Management via the OERCA Animal Welfare Application.
- Communicate testing results to the Life Support Team for real time adjustments.
- Oversee the Laboratory’s safety program and enforce safety policies and procedures.
- Interface with regulatory agencies and accrediting organizations to maintain all standards accordingly.
- Work in concert with Life Support Supervisor to ensure all facilities are complaint with both regulatory and accrediting organization as appropriate.
- Enforce all departmental policies as needed; follow and enforce all polices of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
- Other duties as requested.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years previous experience as a Water Quality Laboratory Technician (AZA or ZAA Affiliation Preferred)
- AALSO Water Quality Certification Preferred
- Experience with OERCA Animal Welfare Application preferred
- Must have a thorough working knowledge of water chemistry, as it applies to a wide variety of systems including marine mammal, fish and avian systems
- Must be able to work in all types of weather both indoors and outdoors
- Must be able to deal effectively with other professionals and governmental agencies
- Must possess excellent organizational skills
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays
- Must possess good corrected/uncorrected eyesight.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Applications
