Req ID 33567Kings Island is seeking an experienced Director of Maintenance & Construction to lead all aspects of park-wide maintenance operations, including rides, facilities, utilities, and capital construction projects. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all physical assets across the park.
This position plays a critical role in delivering a world-class guest experience by driving operational excellence, leading large teams, managing significant capital investments, and ensuring strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Direct all maintenance operations across rides, facilities, and electrical systems
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs, annual overhauls, and repair strategies
- Ensure safety, reliability, and maximum uptime of all park assets
- Oversee daily physical plant operations, including utilities and grounds
Construction & Capital Projects
- Lead planning and execution of capital construction projects
- Manage contractors, engineers, architects, and vendors
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with specifications and safety standards
- Coordinate project schedules and priorities across departments
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, develop, and manage a team of managers, supervisors, and technical staff
- Drive performance through training, coaching, and accountability
- Oversee hiring, performance evaluations, promotions, and disciplinary actions
- Foster a safety-focused culture and continuous improvement mindset
Financial Management
- Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets
- Monitor expenses and ensure cost-effective operations
- Support long-range planning and capital forecasting
- Maintain visibility into project costs, timelines, and resource needs
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Interface with regulatory agencies, inspectors, and government officials
- Lead safety initiatives and enforce company policies and procedures
- Identify risks and implement corrective actions as needed
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with park leadership and other departments to support operational goals
- Maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, and external partners
- Address escalated guest concerns related to park infrastructure and operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in maintenance, construction, or operations
- Experience in industrial, manufacturing, utilities, or similar complex environments preferred
- Proven success managing large teams and multi-million-dollar budgets
- Experience overseeing large-scale capital projects
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and facility systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and engineering plans
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and operational excellence
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Valid driver’s license
