Animal Care Specialist 2-Rainforest Trail - $24.00/HR -$26.00/HR

Essential Job Duties:

• Facility maintenance, repairs, and gardening 
• Butterfly nectar flower horticultural knowledge
• Butterfly releasing and record keeping
• Processing shipments independently with all record keeping
• Feeding butterflies and other exhibit animals
• Environmental maintenance of exhibit 
• Butterfly containment, all aspects
• Pest control: monitor and treats
• Public interactions, including tours and responses to guests
• Safety Inspections
• Specimen preparation for reference collections
• Operation of exhibit when Entomologist not present
• Knowledge of both tropical and native butterfly species 
• Knowledge of butterfly house regulation by all government agencies 
• Plans, conducts, and writes practical or other research projects  
• Assist other Land Animal departments in daily husbandry 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have one year work experience as Butterfly Keeper or equivalent work experience preferred
• Must be in excellent physical condition and possess the mental capacities to perform the essential job duties
• Must be able to lift equipment up to 50 lbs. 
• Must possess the physical dexterity to hold and maneuver equipment.
• Must be able to walk and move quickly between different areas.
• Must not be afraid of heights.
• Good public speaking ability.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather including humidity
• Must possess the physical and mental abilities to work around a large variety of exotic animals
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
