Q: How did you first come to work at the park?
Chris: I started when I was 16 years old after a recruiter convinced me to apply. I had already worked at a couple of other places, you know, fast food, typical teenager jobs. But that just didn’t feel like me. I started in the Games department here, which honestly wasn’t my first choice at the time. But I love it, now I’ve been in this area of the park for 20 years!
Q: Tell us a little about those early days for you. How did it feel?
Chris: I got on the microphone and at first, it was one of those things I was really nervous and kind of anxious about doing. But after a little bit of time on it, it became more natural. Then I started putting my own spin on it. It surprised me, but I became a really big fan of it!
I used to be someone that was sort of reserved, a real quiet type. But working here, especially with some of the people that I worked with, really helped unlock a different side of me. This is a place where you can grow your skills, grow on the business side, just as much as you can grow with friendships.
Q: What would you say you enjoy the most about working in the park?
Chris: I like just talking to guests, getting their stories. When a guest plays a game, I kind of want to give them a full show – joking around with them, talking a little bit. Sometimes you can tell that it makes their day, having someone who’s taking an interest in them. I love having little experiences like that. And the park has an amazing culture. It’s so great, all the relationships you form. Some of the best friends I’ve ever had, I met right here.
